Last week was truly special for the Saint Agatha School community, filled with moments of celebration, faith, and inspiration. Two remarkable events took center stage, leaving lasting memories for both our students and the larger parish community.
First, several of our Grade 6 students were selected to participate in the taping of the Catholic TV Mass, which was celebrated by Father Bill Murphy of Saint Agatha Parish. This mass, which aired on Friday, January 31, was a beautiful opportunity for our students to represent Saint Agatha with grace, dedication, and pride. Watching our students actively engage in the liturgy was a true testament to their faith. It was inspiring to see them not only present but also fully involved in the Mass. If you missed it, you can watch the full broadcast on the Catholic TV website: Catholic TV Mass.
The week reached its pinnacle with a truly special Mass, celebrated by Archbishop Henning. We were deeply honored by his presence, and the occasion became even more memorable as we were joined by Eileen McLaughlin, Superintendent of Catholic Schools, and Mary Goslin, Associate Superintendent of Government Programs for the Archdiocese of Boston. Their presence added a sense of significance to the gathering and highlighted the importance of our school’s mission within the larger community.
A standout moment of the Mass was the performance by our school’s choir, led by Kathy Fitzpatrick. The choir’s beautiful voices filled the church, creating a sacred atmosphere that truly enhanced the liturgical experience. The students’ harmonies were a testament to the dedication and talent that Kathy has cultivated within them. The choir’s performance wasn’t just about music; it was a visual representation of how our students actively participate in worship, contributing their gifts to the glory of God.
One of the most beautiful aspects of the service was how our students, gathered in the pews, were actively involved. They followed along with hand motions during the hymns, engaging fully with the music and the Mass. It was touching to see such young students so committed to the liturgy, their gestures adding to the energy and reverence of the Mass. This level of involvement is what makes our school community truly special - a community where faith is actively nurtured, and our faculty and young students are encouraged to live it out in meaningful ways.
The homily delivered by His Excellency was both heartfelt and relatable. He spoke to the children in a way that resonated with their experiences, addressing them as individuals of deep worth in God’s eyes. One of the most poignant parts of the homily was his reflection on the "Lamb of God." Instead of depicting the Lamb as a fierce, intimidating creature, he reminded us that Christ, though powerful, is filled with love and compassion. This message resonated deeply, especially with the children, who connected with the idea that God’s love is gentle and all-encompassing, a perfect example of how our faith continues to guide us. This Mass was recorded and you can view it here.
In addition to these uplifting spiritual moments, we were also thrilled to welcome the Archbishop to our school. We had the opportunity to visit our classrooms, highlighting the hard work of our faculty. Their dedication to providing a nurturing environment for our students was evident and appreciated by everyone involved.
As the week of celebration concludes, we also look ahead to upcoming events, including the exciting Gala & Auction. This event promises to be an unforgettable evening dedicated to supporting Saint Agatha School and our continued mission of fostering faith, education, and community. Tickets are now on sale, so be sure to visit our website for more details: Gala & Auction.
This week served as a beautiful reminder of the strength of our Saint Agatha community - a place where faith, love, and celebration go hand in hand. On this February 5th, the Feast Day of St. Agatha, let us pray for her intercession!
