"During February vacation I will be working with the organization Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos (NPH). Fr. William Wasson founded NPH in 1954, when he took in one boy who a committed petty crime in Mexico, rather than allowing him to be sent to jail. By the end of the year, the Mexican courts had sent him 32 boys. Since then NPH has grown immensely! It now serves 3,100 children, boys and girls of all ages, in Central and South America, as well as in the Caribbean. NPH gives these children a home, a family, an education, and a better life.
For the next week, my dad and I will be living at the NPH home in the Dominican Republic, which was established in 2003. This home takes care of around 400 children from whenever they are taken in until they have graduated college. During the week we will be doing service projects inside and outside of the compound, working in the schools, and helping out around the home.
My dad and I decided to go on this trip because we feel that it is important to give back. We are so fortunate to live in homes with loving parents and guardians and we don’t think twice about it. Unfortunately, there are children in this world who are not so fortunate. Lucky for them, there are places like NPH to give them a safe and loving home. However, NPH cannot run on its own, they need volunteers to help them, so we decided to donate a week of our time to those in need and we couldn’t be more excited!"
